Don’t let your Past hinder your Future!! Don’t let your Past hinder your Future!!

This phrase is so loaded… When I read it, I thought immediately about Lots wife… Gen. 19:26 But Lot’s wife looked back, and she became a pillar of salt. With all that had transpired, all Lots wife had to do was go with her husband and she would be free.  But instead, she was too concerned with what was behind her.  Lets think about this… What was behind her?  Hmm, her friends, her sons in law, the men who came to “rape” the angels, etc.

How many times have you been in a situation where something from your past.  Your past can hinder your growth in the Lord, growth in your career and wait for it… growth in relationships.

If you are always worried and remember the good ole days and when you used to do X, Y and Z, it iminishes what God can do with you NOW.  God wants to use us to bring others in but many times, we liked our past so much that we hold on to it instead of realeasing it and grabbing for the gold. The city of Sodom and Gomorrah tuned out to be the wort environment for Lots family.  I wonder why the sons in law laughed at him when he told them to leave with him?  Were they already engulfed in the lifestyle? There is no mentioning that they were virgins anywhere… #IJS And Lot being a man of God, thinking he was doing the best he could offered his daughters but “They kept bringing pressure on Lot and moved forward to break down the door” because they wanted what Lot had behind him. Poor Lot even after getting out of danger was betrayed by his daughters because their past and what they were around (old environment) made them believe that it was ok to lay with their own father… Word to the wise… Satan is very crafty and will use those you are closest and dearest to to betray you….

You seem to never get ahead… It seems the harder you try the less you get.  The bible reminds us that promotion comes from God.   Lot was an ordinary man… Nothing special… He is known by his lineage Ruth and Abraham.  “So when God destroyed the cities of the plain, he remembered Abraham, and he brought Lot out of the catastrophe that overthrew the cities where Lot had lived”.  You, me, the CIO, President of the Board, whoever are just ordinary people as well.  If you are a child of God, you are supposed to ask for what you want and believe God for it.  So why is it that you have asked God for a new job, more money etc and havent received it?  Is it because you have been trying the same methods over and over again that in the past has worked for a moment (brown-nosing, threatening to quit, etc)?  Do you realize that those methods dont move God.  When you find yourself in a situation where you may be qualified for the job but the “boss” doesn’ t feel like you are, you need to go. How about staying in a dead end job just because you’re comfortable or you feel that you are making an impact (but aren’t).  Stop hindering your future with past results on man promotions.

Hindering the relationship….. Man, I could go on this forever…. Have you ever been cheated on? Lied to? Betrayed? Don’t let your past hinder your future!!! Many of us have been in relationships where we were cheated on.  This puts a strain on us moving into healthy relationships with others because we tend to keep looking for avenues and things that reminded us of when we found out he/she was cheating on us.  Facebook pokes, texts messages, passwords on phones… all of those are our past hindering going forward.  How can you expect anyone to trust you when in fact you really don’t anyone.  Remember, your past is just that, the past. If you are in a relationship that is committed, engaged or married… your goal is to make it through the long haul.  Dont allow what has happened to you in the past carry over to you treating someone the same way.  Be cautious of people who are always downing or having word to say about the person you are with.  Allow God to show you who the person is instead of going with the crowd.  Im reminded of Jesus and the woman at the well.  See, while Jesus was working on the womans issues (and this can apply to men as well) the disciples were in the city.  When they returned, they looked at Jesus crazy because he “shouldn’t” have been conversing with the Samaritan woman.  They never even thought that maybe Jesus was ministering.  They assumed that the woman was who she was and up to the same things she used to be up to (messing around).  When you assume things because of your ppast dealings with people, you hinder new relationships.  The best thing in this situation is Jesus isnt moved by emotions or what people think.  He continued his ministry and it was so affective that the woman went back and told EVERYONE to come see a man that knows all.

Thats what we need to do… Go see a man who knows all.  He isnt moved by emotions or our past.  He loves us despite our wrongs.  He is the only one that can heal our broken hearts so that we dont break others hearts.  Theres a saying that “hurt people, hurt people”. Selah….  In order to have healthy relationships, we must allow God to guide them and keep other people out of them.  From experience, I have found that some of my “friends” were hindering my relationship with God, my family and my man.  Although they are my past, they still affected my life.  Everyone that you call your friend aren’t.  Let the negative people out of your life.  Seek after positivity.  Just because you run in the same circuit with people and they have heard about past relationships dont mean they are the authority.  Seek God if you are serious about moving forward.

“I see your future and it looks mighty bright” because God is in control.
